In the second half, Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders added another to make it 3-1 in AC Milan's favor. Despite a last-ditch attempt to reduce the deficit by Antonio Rudiger, a goal ultimately disallowed for offside, Carlo Ancelotti's men were unable to pull a goal back.
This heavy defeat at home to a direct Champions League rival is a major blow for Real Madrid. Madrid will have to get their act together quickly if they are to turn their fortunes around and avoid jeopardizing their chances of qualifying for the finals.
Milan, for their part, put in an excellent collective performance and can savour this prestigious victory at the home of the defending champions. This performance will give them a serious confidence boost for the rest of the European competition.
