Since June 2024, the Senegal has embarked on a new phase in its energy sector with the start-up of oil production on the Sangomar. In just four months, from June to September, the country extracted 8.17 million barrels of oil, marking a decisive turning point for the national economy, according to a report by the Ministry of Energy.
Ramping up thanks to open wells
The launch of production is based on the progressive opening of wells. Of the 12 wells available, 11 are already in operation, enabling production to peak at nearly 3 million barrels a month from August onwards. This rapid increase has enabled eight cargoes of crude oil to be loaded and sold, representing a total volume of 7.69 million barrels. These cargoes, extracted and transported from the FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghorhave all been sold on the international market.
Optimistic growth outlook for year-end
Projections for the end of the year are encouraging, with a stable production target of 100,000 barrels per day by the fourth quarter. This performance supports Senegal's vision of making Sangomar a real engine of growth for the country. At the same time, the government is reaffirming its commitment to transparent and responsible operations, in collaboration with partners such as EITI Senegal, Petrosenand Woodside Energy.
